3 Tips to Stay on Track With Your Health Goals This Thanksgiving
Nov 22, 2024
During Thanksgiving (or any holiday), it can be challenging to stick to your healthy habits, especially if you’re traveling, in a different environment, or on a different schedule.
But, here are 3 helpful things you can do during the Thanksgiving holiday to help you stay on track with your health goals:
1️⃣ Focus on drinking LOTS of water.
It sounds simple, but drinking enough water can be hard when you’re traveling, off of your regular routine, or possibly drinking more alcohol than you might normally drink. Aim to drink a full glass of water right when you wake up, before each meal, and before each alcoholic beverage you have.
2️⃣ Commit to 5 minutes of movement daily.
During the holiday, you might be off of your normal exercise routine or may not have enough space to pack any type of exercise clothes. So set a goal of doing ANY type of movement for just 5 minutes each day–and these 5 minutes can be spread out over the course of the day too! Maybe you could go for a 5 minute walk after lunch or a 1 minute walk to the mailbox and back. Maybe you could march in place for 1 minute while you wait for your coffee to brew. Or have a family dance party in the kitchen while you’re cooking a meal!
3️⃣ Remember the Half-Plate Rule.
Fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables and the other half with whatever else you want. This way, you still get some good, healthy foods without feeling deprived!
Bonus: Eat the fruits and vegetables before eating the other foods–you may end up eating less of the “less healthy” foods since you’ll have already filled up on fruits and veggies.
Most of all, ENJOY and SAVOR each moment you have with friends or family as well as each bite of food you take, and remember to take a moment and focus on the things you’re grateful for this Thanksgiving.
